I love cozy spaces. When I lived at home my bedroom was full of cozy textures and warm string lights. When I moved in with Cole there was of course some compromising on the decor of our apartment but I’ve got it feeling pretty cozy in here these days, which I absolutely love. As a homebody, a cozy environment is important to me. It makes me feel comfortable and secure. And, with the weather being close to minus thirty outside this weekend, I have loved it even more so!
Here are my tips for little ways to make your home more cozy:
Lots of Blankets
Blankets are super cozy on their own, so having some draped over your couch, chairs, or bed instantly warms up a room. Plus, they’re easy to reach for this way too. Cole and I have so many throw blankets combined so I also have a rose gold wire basket where we keep extras as well.
Soft lighting really makes a space cozy too. In the living room we have a floor lamp and I opt to use lower watt lightbulbs in it to give the room a cozy glow. I also leave the light above the stove on in the kitchen to give it a bit of light that isn’t harsh as well as a nightlight in the bathroom. This way, we can still see and there is plenty of warm light but we steer clear of using the brighter overhead lights. Not only is it cozy, but we keep our utilities bill down too – double win!
Pillows are such a great way to set the tone of any room in my opinion. With so many colours and textures available, you can easily transform a room with them. I keep a minimum of four on the couch at all times and also have four or five in the bedroom as well.
Candles are one thing I can’t get enough of! They smell great and the warm light they give to a room just instantly relaxes me and makes me feel warm. I have a tray on the coffee table which houses my current favourites but I also usually have a couple on the TV stand, one in the bathroom that I light when we have guests over, as well as one on the stove. It’s important to make sure you don’t overpower your space with too many scents, though. I use a lot of unscented candles and choose one scented candle if I’m going to light a bunch or else choose coordinating scents.
String lights are a great way to warm up your space. I like having them on the TV stand in the living room and I also have a curtain of string lights behind our bed. The possibilities are endless with these though! You could string some in the kitchen, put them in lanterns on the floor, anything really and they add a totally cozy vibe to your space!
